Pump action

We have lots of pictures today. We’ve all decided that Luke is very watchable. You start looking at him, and you realize you’re just staring at him for long periods of time. Mindy’s mom commented that she noticed the TV was on much less now that the baby’s home. He’s very expressive, and he tracks you very well with his eyes- he can look at one person and if another hovers over he’ll look them right in the eye. I’m sure it’s just gas in real life, but in my head he must be a genius.

Last night was tough, at least for the first night home. Nothing horrible, but Luke was having a tough time feeding. It kept Mindy up a lot, plus she’s getting used to trusting that he’ll be ok when she’s not looking at him. Since we had so many problems last night, this morning at 7 am we ran out to Wal-Mart in Junction City to get a pump. Of course they were out, so our "quick trip" turned into a long trip to Manhattan to see if Target had them. They did, but we got there ten minutes earlier than their opening, so we had to wait a little bit. We had decided to skip church this morning (even though Mindy really wanted to show off the baby) and just go tonight when there weren’t so many people and we didn’t have to rush the morning, so we had time, but we had left Luke with Grandma and Grandpa so we didn’t want to be gone too long. After we got the pump and a few bottles, we headed back. It seems to work pretty well, and we’re going to keep at it until this breastfeeding thing works. Mindy’s a little frustrated, but she’s taking it pretty well despite everything. She was exhausted after trying so hard to make it work last night, so she got a little nap later on this morning.

Luke has been keeping me pretty busy changing diapers in spite of our feeding problems. Last night we had him on the changing table and he turned on the hose- me, the mirror on the wall nearby, and his clothes and blankets got doused. It was pretty hilarious. Mindy was there for that one too, but somehow she didn’t get wet. He always seems to do that when I think about it and decide it won’t happen that particular time. So fool me once, Luke, shame on you…

I promise Mindy will post soon. She’s been busy as you can imagine. But I should have her talked into it in a day or two. She wants to put down everything that she remembers from the last couple of days so we won’t forget it. She has already said that she didn’t know half of what was going on in the room around her; though I certainly don’t blame her.

We have a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday at the Well Baby Clinic to check up on Luke. Mindy doesn’t have to go back in for several weeks, but we do need to stop by the pharmacy once it’s open to pick up her pain medication to counter the soreness from delivery. I got off work for Monday and Tuesday, and will take about a week of leave soon as well. I will probably need it.

Hey, I just want to encourage you Mindy! It is so hard to keep the breastfeeding thing up at the beginning but it is SO WORTH IT! I was so glad that I pushed through the pain and frustration because it has been such a rewarding experience. Don't give up! :)

Chris & Mindy, He is so beautiful! God truly has blessed both of you with this little miracle. You should be very proud. Mom-Mom is extremley proud. To be honest, I have never seen her this happy. We can't get her to shut up. Actually, we all look at your blog everyday and both of you (don't kid yourself - really Luke) are the topic of conversation here at CareFirst. Try and get some rest and when Mom-Mom & Pop-Pop come to visit take advantage of them to catch up on rest and have a night out. I'm sure they won't mind having Luke all to themselves. Oh and by the way, if Mom-Mom says he looks like her - don't believe her!
Keep posting we Love it here at CareFirst!!!
