Cole Bros. Circus

A few days ago we went to the Cole Brother's Circus. Luke was so excited! He just starred and starred at everything - he's a processor! I don't think he said anything during the whole program - but the second we got into the van to head home he excitedly started talking about everything we saw. Will was in the beginning stages of a cold - and two molar teeth coming in - so though he was very interested in the happenings, he got a bit restless towards the end...not to mention he was covered in drool (from the teeth) and snot (from his cold)...which means I was covered too since he was on my lap! That's motherhood for ya! =)

This act also kept me biting my nails! I'm SO not a risk taker...so seeing others take risks makes me nervous! =)

Luke thought it was funny to create new sticker eyes...this was a lesson learned for him. After he put the stickers on his eye lids, he then realized they had to come off. Whoops! He won't be doing this again, but the pictures are funny!

Field Journal

If you have young kids, you may have heard about a little show called, "Go, Diego Go!" Luke LOVES this show and often times pretends he's Diego! During one of his "I'm Diego" play times, he kept mentioning that he would have to check his field journal. For those of you not familiar with Diego, the field journal is a journal packed full of animal pictures and facts. A light bulb went off in my head. So, I decided to purchase a notebook, some stickers, photo corners, and a special pen and create Luke's own field journal.

It's nothing fancy, but Luke likes it. I let him pick an animal - we find a picture and print it - then I'll find a small handful of facts to print out and tape underneath the picture.

Luke is so proud to have his very own field journal!

He misses his Daddy

A few weeks ago, I took this video of Luke watching the video footage of Chris's R&R homecoming. It's hard to see what Luke is doing here (sorry the video is so dark and huey (if that's even a real word!), the room was dark so you'll have to look close at the bottom of the screen to see where Luke is standing), but at one point he tries to kiss Chris through the screen and then reaches his arms up either for a hug or to be held by daddy. He misses his daddy so much. These two have always had an incredibly close and special bond. They are truly two peas in a pod.

Though Luke has handled the deployment well, it's moments like these that break my heart in half. And yet - though it's very sad - it's also very encouraging. Luke is young - but he has never forgotten how special his daddy is. To see how much he longs to reach through the TV and hug and kiss daddy just goes to show that their bond is stronger than the time they will have spent apart - which when all is said and done will be about 17-18 months.

Thankfully we had R&R and will have a few days together this summer. Then come fall, we'll be back together as a family. How I long for that! Life just seems incredibly incomplete with Chris away.

Anyway, I don't know why I felt like sharing this video tonight, but here it is nonetheless! =)

If you think of it, say a prayer for military families. Especially for those who have been affected by the happenings of today in Baghdad.

I have so much to blog about and lots of pictures to post, but it'll have to wait for another time. It's time for bed!

Melting into the floor...

Have you ever had one of those moments where you wish you could just melt away into the floor? Well I had one of those very amusing - quite embarrassing moments today.

Today was a very busy day - lots of running around and entertaining the boys - and now finally a chance to sit down and take a breath...at 10pm! Better late than never! Annnnnyway, one of the to-do's today was to get my hair cut. I had tried numerous times to get into my regular hairdresser, but she was booked up - and I was pretty desperate to get my hair cut. So, I called another salon and was able to get an appointment. The hairdresser that worked on my hair had some extra time and really spent a good amount of time helping me get and learn how to maintain healthy hair. My hair always feel so fried!

So after the cut, a deep conditioning treatment and a style, I went to the counter to pay. The hairdresser and receptionist were excitedly telling me how much they liked how my hair turned out. I was eating it up because it is extremely rare - short of maybe my wedding up do, a few times my friends did my hair and a cute haircut I got at Fort Riley - that I get compliments on my hair. So as I'm looking down to write in the tip and put away my receipt my hairdresser says, "Oh you look so beautiful!" Extremely flattered, I begin to answer with a thank you - but just as the word "thank" audibly slipped through my mouth, I notice that someone else has come to stand and pay at the desk...a pretty young girl who just got her hair fixed for prom....and that was who the compliment was being aimed! So what do you do when you've just answered to a compliment - especially one so flattering - that was not meant for you?!

I "ohhhed" and "awwwed" over the pretty girl's hair with the other ladies - while secretly wishing I could just melt into the floor. =) Then I left as quickly as I could while I poked fun of myself in my head. The only thing that would have made the whole thing more funny is if Chris would have been there to witness it...he would have never let me live it down!! =)

So - what I've learned today. Always make eye contact and be certain that a compliment is being given to you before answering!

So, am I the only one that's had an embarrassing situation lately? Please tell me I'm not the only one who wants to melt into the floor every now and again!
