Sunday morning started off a bit rocky as Luke decided he wanted to get up WAY to early and was completely exhausted. Then he had a melt down after we got home from the commissary to pick up his cake. He wanted the cake right when we got home and I told him he had to wait until supper. Melt down city! Good thing nap time was right around the corner! =) On a cute note though - I had been singing "Happy Birthday" to him and he picked it up right away and sang it off and on to himself the rest of the day. How cute is that?!
Later that afternoon Monica, Mary Catherine, Elizabeth Anne, Will A., and Jean came over to celebrate Luke’s birthday. It was such a fun time! Luke enjoyed playing with Mary Catherine, Elizabeth Anne, Will A. and brother Will and I really enjoyed the fellowship with Monica and Jean. Before supper, Luke opened his presents and got lots of fun toys, books and movies. He really enjoyed ripping into the packages once I got them started for him. I can’t wait to see how excited he gets at Christmas this year!!!
We had breakfast foods for Luke’s birthday supper – Amish Breakfast Casserole and blueberry pancakes. Then we indulged in the birthday cake. Luke was very excited about cake – he’s got his mamma’s sweet tooth! After cake, Luke went on a dancing spree! The girls joined him and it was so cute to see them all dancing around the living room. I think I have some video footage I’ll have to see if I can upload.
Later that evening, Chris was able to make a quick phone call to talk to Luke and wish him a happy birthday. At first Luke was a little unsure of what to do – he hasn’t heard Chris’s voice for over a month. After a few minutes though, he warmed up. After Chris had to hang up, Luke still thought he was on the phone and carried it around with him for a good 20 minutes. He walked around the house “showing” his toys to daddy through the phone. Then he’d talk for awhile. A few times he looked at the phone like, “where did daddy’s voice go?” But that didn’t deter him. Finally he felt like he had shown daddy everything he wanted and so we hung up the phone. After that Jean brought Oliver over (Oliver is Jean’s dog, Luke LOVES Oliver!) Luke had a grand time playing with him and trying to grab his tail! Even Will got some puppy loving!
I can’t believe that Luke is 2 now! There’s a huge part of me that is SO excited to see him grow up…and then there’s this little part of me that wants him to always be my little boy. Maybe that’s a natural feeling. =)
On to pictures! I thought I would take a little walk down memory lane before the pics of his 2nd birthday. The first few are of him as a newborn – and then some of his 1st birthday…my how times flies!
Welcome to the world Luke!
