Good News!
Thank you to all who supported, encouraged and prayed for him and us throughout this deployment. Praise God we're finally at the end - 14 months is sure a long time!
As much as the boys and I dreamed and hoped to be at the redeployment ceremony to welcome Chris back - it just wasn't possible. Finances (plane tickets overseas are quite expensive!) and lack of lodging were our biggest obstacles. Though we moved back to the states we had still really hoped to get back to Germany for this very exciting day, so in some ways, it feels a bit incomplete for me (though don't get me wrong - I am VERY happy and VERY relieved that he is home safe and sound.) I feel guilty that Chris didn't have his family there to welcome him home after a VERY long deployment - and there's just something that feels a bit incomplete because even though the deployment is over...the separation is not. Anyway, enough of my random wistful thoughts and longings! =)
At this point I really just want to focus on how WONDERFUL it is to know that Chris is on this side of the deployment and back in Germany! Yeeeehaaawww! =) I know that he is craving some down time - some time to sleep - and some time to just relax and do nothing! He will have a period of reintegration then it'll be back to work...but I think things will be less stressful now.
That's all the details I have for now! Hopefully Chris will have internet soon and can fill in all the massive blanks when he gets a chance. I do want to say again - THANK YOU for your support, encouragement, and prayers - it has meant the world to us!
A friend of mine from Germany sent me this picture of Chris from the redeployment ceremony. It was such a wonderful email to receive - words can't even begin to express how great it was to open the email and see his smiling face. Thank you so much for taking and sending me this photo Casey! It means the world to me! Even though we weren't able to be at the ceremony - we are now able to catch a glimpse of his first moments home.

Welcome Home, Chris!

The newest Shorebird!
Memorial Day had such a wonderful ending this year. As many of you know, Randy (Chris's brother) is the voice of the Shorebirds. The Shorebirds are the minor league baseball team to the Baltimore Orioles. So we are big fans of the Shorebirds!
On Monday morning, Randy called with the news that Luke could throw out the first pitch of the game that evening! The second I told Luke he was beyond excited! In fact, that's about all he could talk about the whole day!
We practiced a little that afternoon...and I think all of us were wondering how the pitch would actually go. I was just hoping he'd get out there and give that ball a good throw...but there were also images of him running away...falling down crying...throwing the ball with his mitt... running through my head too. =)
Finally the time arrived that we could leave for the ballpark. It was spitting rain, so we were hoping that there would be no rain delays. We got there found out where to go and took our places at the side of the field. Luke was in awe of the baseball players - and they were all really nice to him.
This game also happened to be the first game that Luke Scott (the Baltimore Orioles baseball player who is currently rehabbing right now) was playing with the Shorebirds this season. Though we didn't get to meet him, it was pretty cool that our Luke was participating in the same game as that Luke Scott was.
So, the game begins and Luke is called out to the field. The player catching the ball was Oliver Drake who attended the Naval Academy. Which was pretty cool since it was Memorial Day.
I followed Luke out just to help him if he needed. We got out there, got the go ahead - I reminded Luke to throw it with his hand and not the glove - and he threw it with no problems! He was so proud of himself - and we were all super proud of him too! Oliver Drake signed the baseball and took a picture with him - he was so nice to Luke! It was a really really awesome experience!
So a HUGE thank you to Uncle Randy and the Shorebirds for making this happen. It was an incredibly memorable moment!
Here's footage and pictures from the game (updated):

Memorial Day
I also want to say a big Thank You to all the service members and families out there. Your sacrifice, pride, hard work, endurance and love of country is appreciated more than words can even speak.
In thinking about Memorial Day, three distinct individuals immediately came to mind. Though none of these men lost their lives in the line of duty - they all serve(d) with extreme pride.
Robert W.

This is my grandfather. He was drafted into the Army in 1944 at age 22. He was married to my grandmother, Mildred and had one son, Larry, at home - and one on the way, Jackie, at the time. He was shipped off to Germany where he served mostly as a radio operator for ground missions. He had extreme pride in his country and saw the need to serve and protect. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946 because of a severe case of frozen feet (which he got while fighting in a foxhole in the brutal cold weather.)
David A.
This is Chris' grandfather. He was drafted into the Army in 1943 at age 18 (while a junior in high school!) He met his future wife, Nina in the states while training before being shipped off to the South Pacific. He was a radio operator for the B25 Bombers. Though he missed his family and sweetheart tremendously, he had extreme pride in serving his country. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1945.
Chris S.

This is my husband. He was commissioned into the Army in 2002 and is currently serving today. He has served two deployments to Iraq. He is a Signal Officer (how interesting that all three served in communications!!) and though he initially went in hoping for a career in Armor (tanks and such) he has made a fantastic Commo guy! From a very young age he had a desire and passion to serve in the military. He has been very proud to serve his country.
This is just a glimpse into the military accomplishments of these three incredible men. I hope to bring you more detailed posts about each of them in the future. I guess I just felt compelled to post this in honor of the service that has been given by each of them.
So, as I reflect upon the reasons why we celebrate Memorial Day, I am so incredibly grateful for the men and women who have given their lives, who have served and are currently serving and for the future service members who will continue to carry on the fight for freedom. Thank You!

Mother's Day and May Randomness
He also sent Mom Judy a beautiful spring bouquet - we love our flowers!
Mom Judy, Jamie, Julianne and I went to a Ladies luncheon on Mother's Day weekend.
Will has found the joy of blowing raspberries on the leather recliner....
He thinks it's the funniest thing ever!
Luke reading to Julianne!
Will taking Luke for a ride. Notice Will's shirt...he is teething BIG time!
We've been passing around a yucky cold the last few weeks. Yucky sickness!
I have been watching Julianne while Jamie's at work - here's a picture of the three cutie pies!
Today, while watching the Yankee's, Luke decided he needed to be wearing his Yankee's hat. I found his Yankee's shirt too - and he then declared himself, "Yankee Man." Even at nap time, he refused to part with his shirt and hat...

Cole Bros. Circus
Here are some pics!
Uncle Randy, Aunt Jamie and Julianne!
The "dog and pony" portion. Personally, I thought this was very cute! All the risky stunts keep me too much on edge to relax!
Luke loved seeing the elephants!
Here is Luke processing - this was pretty much his expression throughout the whole thing!
Here is Will's expression - he's quite interested!
Here is one of those risky stunts that kept me on the edge of my seat. This man is running and jumping on the outside of this huge turning wheel - eeeek!
This act also kept me biting my nails! I'm SO not a risk taker...so seeing others take risks makes me nervous! =)
All in all it was a fun afternoon!

He misses his Daddy
A few weeks ago, I took this video of Luke watching the video footage of Chris's R&R homecoming. It's hard to see what Luke is doing here (sorry the video is so dark and huey (if that's even a real word!), the room was dark so you'll have to look close at the bottom of the screen to see where Luke is standing), but at one point he tries to kiss Chris through the screen and then reaches his arms up either for a hug or to be held by daddy. He misses his daddy so much. These two have always had an incredibly close and special bond. They are truly two peas in a pod.
Though Luke has handled the deployment well, it's moments like these that break my heart in half. And yet - though it's very sad - it's also very encouraging. Luke is young - but he has never forgotten how special his daddy is. To see how much he longs to reach through the TV and hug and kiss daddy just goes to show that their bond is stronger than the time they will have spent apart - which when all is said and done will be about 17-18 months.
Thankfully we had R&R and will have a few days together this summer. Then come fall, we'll be back together as a family. How I long for that! Life just seems incredibly incomplete with Chris away.
Anyway, I don't know why I felt like sharing this video tonight, but here it is nonetheless! =)
If you think of it, say a prayer for military families. Especially for those who have been affected by the happenings of today in Baghdad.
I have so much to blog about and lots of pictures to post, but it'll have to wait for another time. It's time for bed!

Melting into the floor...
Today was a very busy day - lots of running around and entertaining the boys - and now finally a chance to sit down and take a breath...at 10pm! Better late than never! Annnnnyway, one of the to-do's today was to get my hair cut. I had tried numerous times to get into my regular hairdresser, but she was booked up - and I was pretty desperate to get my hair cut. So, I called another salon and was able to get an appointment. The hairdresser that worked on my hair had some extra time and really spent a good amount of time helping me get and learn how to maintain healthy hair. My hair always feel so fried!
So after the cut, a deep conditioning treatment and a style, I went to the counter to pay. The hairdresser and receptionist were excitedly telling me how much they liked how my hair turned out. I was eating it up because it is extremely rare - short of maybe my wedding up do, a few times my friends did my hair and a cute haircut I got at Fort Riley - that I get compliments on my hair. So as I'm looking down to write in the tip and put away my receipt my hairdresser says, "Oh you look so beautiful!" Extremely flattered, I begin to answer with a thank you - but just as the word "thank" audibly slipped through my mouth, I notice that someone else has come to stand and pay at the desk...a pretty young girl who just got her hair fixed for prom....and that was who the compliment was being aimed! So what do you do when you've just answered to a compliment - especially one so flattering - that was not meant for you?!
I "ohhhed" and "awwwed" over the pretty girl's hair with the other ladies - while secretly wishing I could just melt into the floor. =) Then I left as quickly as I could while I poked fun of myself in my head. The only thing that would have made the whole thing more funny is if Chris would have been there to witness it...he would have never let me live it down!! =)
So - what I've learned today. Always make eye contact and be certain that a compliment is being given to you before answering!
So, am I the only one that's had an embarrassing situation lately? Please tell me I'm not the only one who wants to melt into the floor every now and again!
